JPEG vs PNG vs WebP for Etsy listings

Format choice is boring until a listing is slow, a graphic has a jagged halo, or zoom looks mushy. Pair the right format with the right size: Etsy listing photos should be 2000×2000. See the Etsy image size guide.
JPEG
Use it for photographs. It shrinks files by discarding detail the eye rarely misses. Do not save the same JPEG ten times. Export once from the original.
PNG
Use it when you need transparency or hard-edged logos. Product photos as PNG are usually larger with no visual benefit. If the background is already white, JPEG is enough.
WebP
WebP often beats JPEG on size at similar quality. Etsy accepts it. If you also sell on a channel that is picky, keep a JPEG in the same AutoSizer ZIP. More detail is in the product image file size guide.
- Photos: JPEG or WebP at 2000×2000
- Graphics with transparency: PNG
- Stay under 5 MB for snappy Etsy loads
